Dude! I hate being in front of cameras! This week I was on TV again. I got invited to be on a panel discussion to be aired on GBN tv. We ended up having a more casual discussion about careers in Art with one of the reps from CXC. I don't think that video is out yet, but I'll make sure to link it (like I should the others la di dah). Now this spotlight thing creeps me out, but I know it's a necessary evil. I never watch interviews and cringe at photographs but thats just me being cringey.
My friend Wizzy over at summy foodie blog Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Punch also has an great portrait 1000 Faces project going on. When I was in Trinidad she came to my house with her cute family. She'd asked me to take my photo for her project to which I drudgingly agreed seeing as I hate being in front of the camera. Completely and utterly unprepared, she's still managed to make me look hoomin! But seriously she is amazing and if you happen to be around when she's wielding her camera, make sure to be part of her project. Let's see her get to 1000! :) I'm #134! She had to also mention, scaring the crap out of me, that her photo blog gets even more hits than the food blog.
While I was home I also had the pleasure of working with (i.e. posing for) Mark Lyndersay, another amazing person in my circle. He shot the portrait for Outlish Magazine. When that story is published you guys will be the first to know. Everyone's asking when. Hah! I'm not privy to such info just yet. Give it time! PLUS, attached to that whole story is even more exciting stuff from my trip home. Mind you, all of these little delays actually give me time to put some more work up.

Surrender
I'm finally doing Illustration Friday! Prompting from Stacey led me to get off my butt and finally, after years of subscribing, to actually get a piece done. Hooray me!
Anyway, this is one of my favourite poses in yoga - camel/ustrasana. It's hard, can be dangerous, but feels quite awesome to just let go, if you open your heart and let that energy flow. Ok so it's not a perfect illustration of the pose, and a wee bit girly, but I'm happy about it and this needs to be published. Sounds un peu cliché but I have to surrender to imperfection at some point or the other.
Pull em up!
Skull Bunny Panties available at Spreadshirt (I only just found this so I gotta check out this store)
I've manned up and buckled down and pulled up my big girl panties to get some serious work done. (That's a whole lot of action there). I'm back in the freelance game and spreading the word. If you poke around the website you'll see lots of new goodies.
If you're subscribed via rss or google feed you probably won't see it, and I know you have no time, but I urge you to give an extra few clicks and check out some of the new business services I'm offering and also if you're interested in my services please read the new faq so that we (both) won't go crazy. There's extra stuff too if you look around.
It's not perfect, but it'll develop in time. I'm totally okay with this despite my raging perfectionist peeking out every now and then.

Mud!
This morning I discovered this amazing performance by Olivier de Sagazan - Transfiguration on Sebastien Collier's blog. If you're easily creeped out it may not be for you, but once you get past that it's quite interesting. I don't suggest you keep reading this post until you see the video, because there's relevance you know... Anyway go. Watch.
"TRANSFIGURATION" a Performance by Olivier De Sagazan from Supralude on Vimeo.
For most of the video all I could think about was
1. Holy wow he's holding his breath a lot
2. Mud mud mud mud mud mud mud...madneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessss nananananananannaa.
3. Can we replace the soundtrack of Transfiguration to Mud Madness, do a remix, and what fun that would be?
I wouldn't want to ruin anything so beautiful (either of the pieces), but it is food for thought. On the other hand, if you don't have the balls to handle something being ruined/transformed then what is life about? I'm an consummate perfectionist. It's my struggle every day, with myself and with my work. I attain some semblance of balance in my work, where I allow myself let go that part of me that won't let go of stupid quirks like critters in the house. My work is about imperfections, of beauty in the ordinary, wabi-sabi.
I've also been thinking about all the changes that are going on in my life, from last year to now, all the transformations, transmorphing, re-birthing, re-doing since I decided that an independent career choice was a fabulous idea. It's been quite a journey and I'm ready for something else. I'm not giving this life up, but just adding to it. I've made the decision to find a job, albeit half-heartedly, but I think it's time to get back into the world. I am more certain about what I want no doubt. And so I go forward.

WOMA: Open Call for Women Artists in Grenada
WOMA (Women Make Art) is an idea that began on a lovely Sunday evening at the seaside with a bunch of wonderful artists, art lovers, creative folks and brilliant minds.
Stacey Byer and I, together with amazing support from the Alliance Francaise, Grenada Arts Council and a host of other great people are putting on a themed exhibition of women artists in Grenada - the first of its kind. We are duly excited, busy and getting ready for a great show.
The blog is up and the call is out. I'll be updating as we go along! Doopdeedoo.

Les femmes
In lieu of the upcoming show, and since this has been planned for a while, I want to highlight some splendid Trini women. I can hear all of you moaning "Oh God spare me the feminist shit, didn't we have to deal with 3 Trini Women last year?". Simmer down. I'll be quick.
I so love this Pan Caribbean series though, that it must be shared. The videos can't be embedded (boo) so if you wish, you can just click the linkies. I must warn you that you should dedicate some time to sit and listen if you can. Great mounds of boobs!
Pat Bishop
Pat taught me at UWI, and is one of the coolest teachers/thinkers/talkers/bright women you'll find, if you don't screw up the essays. When I say bright I know half of you readers who know her might chuckle.
Pat Mohammed
Actually I added Pat to Facebook saying "oohh haiiii how are youuuu I'm in Grenada now blah blah..." thinking I had met her once, and I didn't and my brain sucks a whole lot. Shut up.
Sunity Maharaj
Sunity, in a very roundabout way hired me at WinTV in 2007. We didn't interact much but I know she is awesomesauce. She was too busy outing fires and being brill for us noobie batcave editors and was gone before we had a chance to work together. :(
Grenada Arts Council Book
Well it's time for the 47th year (holy art supplies artgeeks!) of the Council Show, which will be held from February 4 - 18th 2011.
Susan Mains put together the catalogue of last year's show. With all the excitement of the past year, I'd forgotten that my work is in here. *Squee*
Check out all the other amazing artists' work!

Happy New Year!
May we have awesomeness all around! To my old and new readers, thanks for reading! You are loved. You make me feel squishy. I know there are lurkers who haven't subscribed, who have a peek and never comment. (Less squishy more creeped out feeling) I love you too even though I'm all like wooorrrd, you're here, you check, for reals? *cringe*
Anyway I'm not sure what this year will bring but I'm going to continue to do what I'm doing! What is that? Ok your guess is as good as mine I suspect. On to adventure! I hope. *swishes hair*
(Also bugger off to Blogger on my mobile for eating my post, but Opera saved me yay!)
