Missing Link

Missing Link, 2011,Digital Illustration
Cute, big, shy and fuzzylicious, he's about 12 feet tall, and eats flowers and fruits. That's about all I know. He hasn't told me his name yet, because he's a wee bit of a hermit. He will come out of his cave when hugged sufficiently.

We Does Draw 11

This weekend we hosted the 11th edition of We Does Draw, and in usual arty farty style we painted, enjoyed each other's company, met new group members and of course burnt to a crisp. Crazy sun. Okay honestly it wasn't that bad with frequent pauses in the shade and Dave's fancy tarpaulin that saved the day (and our hides). Thank you to everyone who joined in! See more on the group and if you weren't around for the last one, we have another WDD aimed for 12th November in the food court at Trincity Mall. There's now a website for WDD but we're not fully launched yet, so stay tuned for more.

Blog Action Day: Food

Hooba and the Cake, 2011, Digital Illustration and Photography. Cupcake courtesy Cupcake Wench
As today is Blog Action Day 2011, I continue my series of my characters in their natural, or in this case, not so natural habitats. Today we find Gloria Hooba, flying by the kitchen on her way home. She's spotted something with lovely red sugar and creamy icing. What could it be? It looks deliciously tempting. Shall she have the pleasure of indulging? Should she break her diet of glow worms and lemongrass? Oh dear. Perhaps it's poison.  However will she find out?

The Hoobas

Gloria Hooba, 2011, Digital Illustration
Meet Gloria Hooba, a winged blob of love. She like pretty things and is easily distracted by them. Don't send clouds her way or she will have a diva-sized fit. Otherwise she's pretty cool.
Her ancestor pictured below is called Hoobalooba but this new breed of is just called a Hooba. I think she evolved from a grape that ate a butterfly. The reports are sketchy.

Note: Upon a Google search I found some other incidences of this word being used in children's illustration/ book. It's what I called her in 2008 and didn't actually copy it from anything else, but just in case, I've changed the name for the newer version to avoid being nailed for stealing or something. I hate having the same name for things as someone else especially when I made it up (dammit). I think I may have posted her back then or not - can't really be sure and too tired to go digging. It may have been on one of my old blogs.

Baloobee

The Baloobee Monster, 2011, Digital Illustration

Baloobee Hangs Out, 2011, Digital Illustration and Photography
This is the Baloobee monster in his natural habitat. He is a quiet chap and just a handful for humans, but has a vicious bite if you bother him while he is sunning himself. He responds well to offerings of tea and chocolate sacrifices. In this scene Fingdingle Baloobee he has seen something amazing and wants to hug it forever (he said so himself just after I shot this). I'm still not sure what it is, because my eyes can't see all that he can. I'll have to find out and take its portrait too.

Mmmmonster

Cake Monster, 2011, Ink on grey linen paper
My little ravenous friend is done and drooling with delight over his cake. Don't steal his joy because he probably will be upset and not very amicable after that. Very much like people, monsters tend to get a little emotional about their cake. You can see previous process work here.

Guess what? My buddy is going to Monsters International! Merci beaucoup to the Monsters team in Canada!
